Things to do on a Rainy Day in Plettenberg Bay

Rainy days in Plettenberg Bay, give you the chance to slow down and see Plett in a completely different light. While the sun tends to encourage people to go exploring the beaches and great outdoors, a change in weather allows you to discover cosy spaces that you might not have discovered. If you find yourself in Plettenberg Bay on a rainy day, here are some ways to make it a day to remember.

There’s something about a warm drink on a cold day that makes everything better. Plettenberg Bay is home to a good choice of Coffee Shops. Let's give you some options that you might not normally find.

The Daily Grind has ample parking, as it is set alongside the Plettenberg Bay Gym. It can therefore be a practical stop when the rain shifts your exercise plans indoor. Whether it be for a quick coffee after a workout, or a leisurely breakfast while you waiting out the rain.

The Seakrit Spot is hidden away on a quiet street that connects with Main Road. It’s full of character, in the kind of way that makes you never want to leave. They have a large assortment of coffee, suited for any mood. The coffee is made by the legendary Dr. Moose

Raw Bakery & Coffee Shop has the most amazing fresh artisanal bread and pastries. It doesn’t matter what your guilty pleasure is, one of their pastries will have your mouth watering.

Rainy days in Plettenberg Bay allow you to slow down, and a day at a spa is one of the best ways to lean into that calmer and more relaxed pace.

The Garden Spa offers a stunning, tranquil setting where you can enjoy classic treatments surrounded by lush greenery, ideal if you’re looking for beauty treatments in a peaceful and convenient location.
Trogon House and Forest Spa is tucked away in the forest and offers a relaxed, nature-based setting, making it a great option for a secluded spa experience.

For a more immersive escape, Forest Nature Spa takes things a step further. Hidden within nature, almost like a tree-house. It’s the kind of place where the rain becomes part of the experience, soothing treatments, and a space designed to help you fully switch off. It’s not just about booking a treatment, but more about slowing down completely, making it a perfect rainy-day reset.  Forest Nature Spa is conveniently located in the heart of Plettenberg Bay, but based on a Nature Park with views of the forest below.

The Garden Route is home to an assortment of Wine Estates and a rainy day is the perfect excuse to go and visit one.
Bramon is the first estate in the area.  Known for its tapas-style menu and MCC bubbles, it’s a place designed for lingering. Seated between the vines, even on a grey, rainy day, there’s a feeling of being both sheltered and immersed in the landscape. It’s not rushed or overly formal, but rather a relaxed, social kind of dining that suits the mood of a rainy afternoon.

A little further along, Newstead offers a space that feels soothing, considered, and unhurried. With a calm, simple setting that encourages you to slow down and its focus on small-batch wines, it leans into a slower, more relaxed kind of experience. The rainy weather seems to soften the space even more. It’s a place to slow down and really enjoy the moment.

Kay and Monty Vineyards is a small family-owned wine farm.  Offering a charming tasting room and restaurant in a converted orchid greenhouse. On a rainy day, it becomes especially inviting, with views over the dam. There’s a special charm to it, where the outside world fades away and the focus shifts to simple comforts, a good glass of wine, a view, and time to sit with both.

Rainy days are the perfect chance to explore local stores. Plettenberg Bay has lots to offer, from handmade goods to exquisite finds. Old Nick Village, is made up of a variety of charming shops, studios and cafes that are set in a garden environment. While it’s not fully covered, there are plenty of indoor spaces to explore, making it a lovely stop if you don’t mind a little drizzle between shops. The slower pace on a misty, rainy day makes it particularly enjoyable. Global Village Gift Shop is well known for its carefully considered clothing, jewellery and home decor. It is perfect for someone looking for something unique, and before you know it, hours will have slipped past. Harkerville Market is a vibrant, local market set just outside Plett. While it is partly open, there are covered stall areas and food sections where you can take shelter, grab something warm to eat or drink, and enjoy the atmosphere.

While Plettenberg Bay is often advertised for its beach and sunshine, rainy days reveal another side of Plett. From cosy cafes and spa experiences to wine tasting and local discoveries, there is so much you can still enjoy. So next time the rain clouds roll in, use it as a chance to see Plett from a different perspective.
